PEOPLE MUST SEE IT TO BELIEVE IT.
An image can tell a story better than words ever will. It is photos that can change people's minds and open up our hearts. When people see, people do. Too many people in our world today are oblivious to the adversity others battle—that our world battles. While many have heard the phrases "Climate Change" and "Stop AAPI Hate", never have they seen these issues in action. Through photography, The Focus hopes to pry open people's eyes to not only the love and hope but the imperfections in our communities. After all, so much more can be improved if entire communities, cities, and nations first just acknowledge the issue.
THE FOCUS HOPES TO INSPIRE POSITIVE SOCIAL CHANGE. HOW? BY POINTING OUR CAMERAS AT THE ISSUE AND FOCUSING ON WHAT NEEDS OUR ATTENTION.
The Focus is aligning social justice with photojournalism. The aim is to spread awareness of important issues in our Bay Area communities today through photography. The Focus also hopes to inspire Bay Area youth to attend community events with their cameras and expose themselves to these topics in our world today. Not only will viewers of the site learn more about the issue, but so will the photographers themselves. Periodically, the site will focus on notable topics—issues that demand more attention and community involvement—and a collection of photos will be featured alongside a corresponding charity for viewers to easily take action.
